Welcome to Let’s Talk Trash (The Site Will Be live In A Weeks Time)! I am Manik Thapar an Indo Canadian, who failed grade ten in India, was shipped off to boarding school in Australia, where during summer holidays, I scored my first Job at the age of 15, going door to door collecting money for the para Olympics. My mother along with my sister had moved to Canada, and after a brief stint in Australia (Ballarat) I was called to Toronto, where my mother had set base. This is where I learned the values of hard work, from stocking grocery shelves after school, to serving bagels behind from behind a counter, I finally found my calling in sales, scoring myself a job at Tip-Top tailors selling business suits & renting Tuxedo’s.
All through college in Canada, I worked selling business suits for a commission, putting a forty-hour work week on a regular basis, and shovelling driveways to get some extra cash to buy myself a second-hand Honda Civic. Post finishing college I moved to Midland, Michigan to complete my MBA, and it is during this time that I realised I did not want to work for anyone. All through my MBA studies, I started building websites and monetising them using Google AdSense. I learned how to code online through a You tube course and use to stay up at night building my sites and optimising them to drive traffic to them. Soon enough I started making some money ($200 dollars a month) which of course motivated me to work harder. The business was a mini success, by the time graduation came along, I was making about $2500 per month doing f*ck all!
Post-graduation I moved back to India and started a company called Eco Wise Waste Management, which as the name suggests works in the field of waste management! I am thirty-Eight and have been running this company for close to 15 years now, expanding it from a one city operation to be present across fifteen cities now. Through these fifteen years I have invested my own money in starting many other businesses, which have failed for one reason or the other. I also made a shit load of money at very young age (between 26-29) and lost it all and have spent the better half of the last decade building myself and business up again.
The goal of this new free platform is to share my experiences, work & learnings which revolves around the importance of patience, mindset, not giving a f**k about others judgement or making decisions based on others judgement. Rome was not built in a day, success is not valued by the money you earn but by the happiness you derive from doing what you do day in and day out while helping and adding value to your customers, friends, family & employees. I hope these learnings from my failure & success will help you learn & grow!
